A grey pickup truck caught fire after it collided with another pickup truck on Highway 391 just north of Thompson Jan. 5. Both passengers in the truck that caught fire got out of the vehicle and were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries.

A 54-year-old man from Thompson and a 55-year-old man from Tadoule Lake were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 391 just north of Thompson Jan. 5.

The collision was reported to RCMP around 3:15 p.m. Saturday and they arrived to find one of the vehicles involved on fire. Both men taken to hospital had gotten out of that vehicle, while the 41-year-old driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle involved had minor injuries but remained at the scene to speak with police.

Investigation determined that a red northbound pickup truck, driven by the 41-year-old, had crossed the centre line and collided with a grey southbound pickup, which then caught fire.

Police do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision and say that, at this stage of the ongoing investigation, mechanical failure may have been the cause.
