Dave Moore of the Thompson Community Foundation presented the $1,000 2020 Troy Anand Fund donation to the Thompson Seniors Community Resource Council at Rotary Place Jan. 23.

Moore said that Dolly Anand, the late Troy’s wife and the fund’s overseer, is extremely generous in her contributions to the community.

“This is a fund that’s self-directed, meaning that she can pick where the money goes,” he explained. “The Thompson Community Foundation can give this money to any registered charity. This year she has chosen where we are giving now.”

Moore explained that the fund is designed to make things, “easier and better for the community.”

“This will improve conditions and make this a more liveable community,” he explained. “The money that they gave was all about Troy, who used to own the Robin’s here in Thompson, Manitoba. It’s a very generous family. Dolly has been doing this for years, and we are very grateful. She really cares about Thompson.”

Linda Dearman of the Thompson Seniors Community Resource Council said the funds will go towards the seniors’ lunch program, foot care and fitness advocacy, bowling, hot dog roasts, a Christmas party, and bus trips.

“We advocate for every senior in Thompson,” she said. “Seventeen per cent of people here are seniors, compared to when most retirees from Vale moved away.”
