The first night of Nickel Days was a busy one for Thompson RCMP, who responded to 75 calls for service between 4 p.m. June 20 and 8 a.m. June 21, lodging 39 people in detachment cells overnight.
RCMP Traffic Services are in the city to assist with traffic enforcement over the next few days and nine tickets were handed out for speeding from Thursday to Friday morning. Five went to drivers speeding on Highway 6, with an average speed of 128 kilometres per hour, while two were handed out on the 70 kilometre per hour stretch of Mystery Lake Road between Thompson Drive South and Nelson Road, to drivers travelling at 112 and 97 kilometres per hour.
