From Sept. 24 to Oct. 8, R.D. Parker Collegiate shut down both of their gymnasiums in order to conduct extensive floor renovations.
RDPC principal Rob Fisher said the floors were stripped down and rebuilt, which also allowed them to fix cracks, loose boards and repaint all of the lines and basketball keys that have become faded and out-of-date with time.
While the floor of the smaller Parker gym was due for a comprehensive renovations for some time now, Fisher said the larger Trojan gym needed some remodelling after hosting events of the Manitoba Winter Games back in March.
“It wasn’t malicious damage,” he said. “When the Manitoba Games used the floors they left tape residue on them or something, so that’s why they got refinished.”
These renovation projects were completed just in time, since the RDPC boys’ and girls’ junior volleyball teams just competed in their first home tournament of the season this past weekend.
