RCMP are asking the publc to report any suspicious behaviour in or near vacant houses to police.

“We request any observations of youth continually frequenting vacant residences to be reported to the police,” says Thompson RCMP detachment Staff Sgt. Christopher Hastie. “We also encourage any property owners of vacant residences to continually check their property for signs of a break-in or mischief to the property.”

Comments on an Oct. 16 Thompson Talk post about an attempted break-in on Elk Bay by youth, at least one of whom had a knife, said that there was an abandoned house on Elk Bay that looks like kids go there as well as one on Juniper Drive that youth have been seen at.

At the Oct. 10 public safety committee meeting, Coun. Duncan Wong asked Thompson RCMP detachment officer-in-charge Insp. Brian Edmonds if police are checking vacant houses.

“We are aware of one house that came to our attention.” Edmonds said.
