Police watchdog investigating after Thompson RCMP officer punches man in the face several times

A Thompson RCMP officer who punched a bystander in the face several times while responding to a call about an intoxicated female is being investigated by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba.

A Thompson RCMP officer who punched a bystander in the face several times while responding to a call about an intoxicated female is being investigated by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba.

Two officers responded to the call on the evening of Sept. 12 and ended up becoming involved in an altercation with the male bystander. Surveillance video of the incident was brought to the attention of the RCMP, which notified the IIU and passed along the video evidence.

The IIU’s civilian director decided it was in the public interest to investigate, although the man did no suffer any serious injuries.
