Police and paramedics responding to machete assault call assaulted by initial victim

RCMP officers and paramedics responding to an assault call about a man with a machete on Ashberry Place Jan. 5 were themselves assaulted by one of the victims of the original assault.

Two men were arrested and charges are pending after Thompson RCMP officers and City of Thompson paramedics responding to an assault were assaulted themselves Jan. 5.

RCMP were dispatched to Ashberry Place around 1:45 p.m. Saturday to investigate a call regarding a man with a machete. A 27-year-old Thompson man was arrested at the scene and remanded into custody.

While the investigation was ongoing, a 28-year-old male who was a victim of the original assault that police and the ambulance responded to assaulted RCMP officers and medical services personnel and was arrested. Police say charges are pending.
