One of Thompson’s longest-running restaurants fell victim to a break-in during the early morning of April 30.

Popeye’s owner Alice Lavoie said a person or group of people forcibly entered through a window around 3:45 a.m., judging by a clock that was broken during the incident.

The intruders weren’t able to steal any cash, since she doesn’t keep money on the premises after closing time.

However, before leaving empty-handed, they still made a mess by spraying a fire extinguisher all over the business’s interior, forcing Lavoie and her employees to throw away their entire food inventory.

After a full day of cleaning, Lavoie and her team managed to re-open the restaurant the following morning and are now resuming regular business hours.

RCMP were notified of the break-in around 10 a.m. April 30 and the forensic identification unit attended the scene to collect evidence.

Anyone with information about this break-in is encouraged to call the Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909.
