An off-duty Manitoba north district RCMP officer has been accused of assault and the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating.
RCMP notified the IIU Dec. 11 of a complaint received Dec. 6 that an off-duty officer had assaulted someone on Dec. 4. No serious injuries resulted but the IIU civilian director determined that it is in the public interest for the agency, which looks into all serious incidents involving on- and off-duty police officers in the province, to investigate.
The RCMP’s north district covers everything from Grand Rapids to the Manitoba-Nunavut boundary and is headquartered in Thompson.
