Marymound North holding grand opening of new Thompson home Sept. 19

The new Thompson home of Marymound North's Futures and Babies Best Start programs will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting, lunch and entertainment beginning at 11 a.m. Sept. 19.

The new Thompson home of Marymound North's Futures and Babies Best Start programs will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting, lunch and entertainment beginning at 11 a.m. Sept. 19.

Located at 117 Commercial Place, the same building as Sears, the new Futures and Babies Best Start is just one building over from its previous location. The new home was custom-built to suit Marymound's programs and services.

"We required the larger space to function differently as we needed one large room instead of two for easier observation," says Marymound North program co-ordinator Penny Benton. "We also have a large boardroom that has a dual use where we can also run programs."

In addition to housing the Babies Best Start and Futures programs, the new space will also have space for treatment foster care and additional programs and services when needed.

"The new building will be even more inviting for young mothers and children to take advantage of the programs we offer, or to not feel isolated and just come and have coffee and chat," said treatment foster care senior manager Susan Tennehouse.

Marymound North programs and services offered to children and families in Thompson and surrounding areas also include a receiving home. Together, Marymound Winnipeg and Marymound North have care for over 70,000 youth and families and now help over 2,000 young people a year as a result of increasing demand.
