A Manitoba-based security company with clients in Thompson and other communities announced July 2 that it has sold the residential portion of its business to concentrate on commercial security.

ProTELEC, which is headquartered in Winnipeg with an office in Brandon, sold its residential security business, which includes customers in Thompson, to a.p.i. Alarm Inc., a Canadian family-owned company with offices in Winnipeg and Calgary.

“ProTELEC is proud to have been providing security in Brandon and area for more than 35 years,” said company president Harry Black in a July 5 press release. “With the sale of our residential division we're well positioned to build our capacity here now and for a long time to come. Over the past year-and-a-half, we have seen our commercial business expand across Manitoba and Western Canada with integrated security services and cutting-edge technology, which includes alarms, CCTV, door access and intercom systems. We’re excited for this next chapter.”

ProTELEC also operates Allen Leigh Security & Communications, an agricultural-focused security company, and has commercial clients including hospitals, property management companies, industrial and financial businesses and provides security systems for cannabis producers.

ProTELEC’s residential customers were notified of the sale by letter and email and a forwarding system was activated July 2 so they can access a.p.i. Alarm Inc.’s emergency monitoring centre.

“ProTELEC has been family-owned and operated since 1968, and we are proud of the reputation we have built as a top-flight security systems and residential monitoring provider in western Canada,” said Black. “For more than 50 years, we have given all our customers the assurance that their residence is secure and being monitored by security system experts they can trust. With this important responsibility top of mind, our company set out to carefully select the right company with the right customer care team to be our customers’ new residential security provider.”
