The City of Thompson's new-look website went live Dec. 14 and a smartphone app featuring the most popular information available from the website is now available for Apple and Android smartphones and tablets.

New features on thompson.ca include a renewed Community Event Calendar, to which members of the public can submit listings of non-profit, community-oriented events. The calendar can be found under Upcoming Events by clicking "View All Events" and also on the recreation department's "Special Events" tab. The new site also gives residents the option of submitting e-service requests, questions, comments and concerns directly to city staff. This feature is under the Thompson Services section of the homepage.

“Communication is a key part of the City of Thompson’s current Strategic Plan,” communications committee chair Blake Ellis said in a press release. “For residents of Thompson, websites have become the primary means of accessing city information such as forms, city documents, and public notices. Keeping our website functional, presentable, and easy-to-use is one part of our commitment to both public engagement and access to information.”

The city's new iTown app offers access to council agenda packages and meeting minutes, service requests, local notices, community events and weather. It can be downloaded for free from Apple's App Store or the Google Play Store.

“IT standards change rapidly from year to year, and our Strategic Plan for information technology recognizes that we need to look to the future in order to invest effectively and efficiently,” said Mayor Dennis Fenske. “All-Net’s service package offered the most adaptability across the range of their term, and we look forward to the new opportunities they offer.”
