Shoreline protection work on the Burntwood River will be taking place until April of this year, Manitoba Hydro says.

The work is being done by a contractor and will include blasting operations, rock sorting, hauling and transporting, site preparation and placement and shaping of riprap along designated shoreline areas in Manitoba Hydro’s licence area. It is intended to minimize shoreline erosion caused by the Churchill River Diversion and ensure the integrity of the easement line of the Burntwood River under the 1976 Manitoba Hydro-City of Thompson agreement. Churchill River water is diverted into the Burntwood River for use by Manitoba Hydro’s Nelson River generating station.

Manitoba Hydro asks motorists to slow down when work crews and equipment are present.
