Animal cruelty charge laid against man who stomped on cat’s head

An 18-year-old Thompson man was charged with cruelty to animals Aug. 14 after he was seen stomping on the head of a cat that was found dead afterwards.

An 18-year-old Thompson man was charged with cruelty to animals Aug. 14 after he was seen stomping on the head of a cat that was found dead afterwards.

Thompson RCMP responded to a call about a man stomping on a cat’s head near the parking lot of Laval Place just before 7 p.m. and located the intoxicated suspect near 51 Laval Place. He resisted arrest and is being held in custody pending a court appearance.

Police located the cat’s body in a nearby dumpster and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

RCMP continue investigating this case in conjunction with Manitoba animal protection officers and the Manitoba Chief Veterinary Office and are seeking additional witnesses.
