A 17-year-old male student is in police custody after making threats towards R.D. Parker Collegiate students on social media around noon Dec. 18.

The suspect, who police say is enrolled at RDPC, was arrested without incident at his residence Dec. 18 and remains in police custody with charges pending. Thompson RCMP said they were not looking for any other suspects and that their investigation is continuing.

We received a possible threat of violence against the school today at 12:10 p.m.,” said an emergency broadcast email message from RDPC principal Rob Fisher, sent out around 1:30 p.m. Dec 18. “The RCMP have reported to us that the person making the threat is in RCMP custody. This is now a police matter. We take threats against our school very seriously and all measures are being taken to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

An automated telephone message to students’ parents regarding the threats said that they implied Dec. 19 as the date they would take place and that police had informed the school that the person who made the threat had been taken into custody prior to 1 p.m. Dec. 18.
