Two hunters, aged 60 and 73, who did not return to their campsite near Grand Rapids after departing from a larger group on Sept. 23, were discovered dead Sept. 25 around 1 p.m. by RCMP searchers in a helicopter.

The men were located together and the deaths do not appear suspicious,” said the RCMP in a Sept. 26 press release.

The men, described as experienced outdoorsmen, ventured off together on ATVs Sunday at 3:30 p.m. They were reported missing shortly after midnight as they had not returned to where the other members of their group had been camping at Long Point on Lake Winnipeg, south of Grand Rapids.

One of the missing men’s ATVs was discovered before searchers found the men themselves.

The second ATV has not been located, but it is believed to be in the water,” said the RCMP.

Polcie said the remote location where the hunters were found meant it took some time before they could reach the bodies and confirm their identities.

Autopsies will be conducted, said RCMP.
