Edwin Jebb has been reappointed as University College of the North (UCN) chancellor for a fourth term.

A member of Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN), Jebb was one of the first Indigenous graduates from the University of Manitoba in 1973 and spend 19 years as the head of the Opaskwayak Education Authority.

The chancellor is the ceremonial leader of UCN and is responsible for conferring all degrees, honorary degrees, certificates and diplomas to the institution’s graduates.

“I am so appreciative that the Governing Council has decided to continue my time as chancellor,” Jebb said in a May 25 news release. The reappointment was made April 21.

“UCN is very fortunate to have chancellor Jebb representing us,” said UCN president Doug Lauvstad. “Edwin has been and will continue to be a tremendous ambassador for our institution.”

Jebb was first appointed as chancellor in 2011. He was also part of the implementation committee that established UCN in 2004 as the successor to Keewatin Community College and was co-chair of UCN’s fundraising campaign. He was named to the Order of Manitoba in 2000.

Jebb’s fourth three-year term as chancellor runs until 2023.
