A 20-year-old Norway House woman is dead, and her 57-year-old father was taken to a Winnipeg hospital with critical injuries after a stabbing in that community on Saturday.

RCMP say that they have arrested a 16-year-old male, a Norway House resident who was known to the victims, and placed him in custody leading up to a Monday court appearance in Thompson.

The 16-year-old was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and assault causing bodily harm.

The RCMP released few details about the event, other than to say it occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday and that they are treating the woman's death as a homicide.

An autopsy on the woman is scheduled to take place in Winnipeg. RCMP say they are not releasing the names of either victim, while the 16-year-old cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police continue their investigation.
