Teen boys charged after sexual assault in Northern Manitoba recorded and shared via social media

A pair of Northern Manitoba teens have been charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement and possessing child pornography after recording a sexual assault of a female under the age of 18.

A pair of Northern Manitoba teens have been charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement and possessing child pornography after recording a sexual assault of a female under the age of 18.

The incident was reported July 17 to RCMP, who discovered that the recording of the incident had been shared via social media.

An 18-year-old male is charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement, possession of child pornography, distributing child pornography and publishing child pornography.

A 16-year-old male is charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement and possession of child pornography.

Police are not identifying the community where the incident took place or any other details to protect the identity of the victim.

“We believe the video continues to be circulating on social media and possibly between individuals via text,” said RCMP Cpl. Laura Ledrew. “Our investigators are determined to track down and lay charges against anyone who further distributes the video. If you do receive the video or are in possession of it, you need to report it to your local police immediately.”
