Cross Lake RCMP are investigating a Aug. 9 house fire that claimed the life of a 93-year-old resident.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., local officers noticed smoke coming from a home in the community and went in for a closer look.

After failing to gain entry to the residence through its front door, the officers broke several windows to help clear the smoke and noticed a woman lying on the floor inside.

Even though they brought her outside to safety, the 93-year-old female ultimately succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the hospital.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner, along with the RCMP, continue to investigate.
