Thompson Rural RCMP are investigating a death from exposure in Split Lake.
Police were informed about a missing man shortly after noon Jan. 25. The 32-year-old was last seen by a First Nation Safety Officer (FNSO) around 11 p.m. Jan. 23, but ran off into the woods when the FNSO attempted to speak with him. Immediate efforts to locate the man in the woods and within the community by FNSOs were unsuccessful, but RCMP officers and a Police Dog Services unit found him dead while conducting a ground search in the community Jan. 26.
Criminality is not suspected in the man’s death, but the investigation by the RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continues while they await autopsy results.
