Some Manitoba Hydro customers in Brochet were without power for more than 12 hours overnight Jan. 15-16 with temperatures dipping to -30 Celsius and below.
Manitoba Hydro said Jan. 16 that crews had flown out of Thompson around 7 a.m. to try to restore power to 148 customers who had been without it since the outage was reported at 7:44 p.m. the previous evening. The Crown corporation had to wait until morning to fly crews out because they could only land during daylight hours. The cause of the outage is believed to be a fault in the power line but Manitoba Hydro’s on-site diesel generating plant is operational. The estimated time of restoration was noon Wednesday.
Around 1:15 p.m. Jan. 16, Manitoba Hydro said via social media that about half of the affected customers had had their power restored and that more crews were heading up to Brochet to assist with full restoration.
