North passes 7,600 total COVID cases, 100 active cases in The Pas health district

The Pas/Opaskwayak/Kelsey health district reached 100 active COVID-19 cases with the addition of seven new infections announced June 15.

There were also seven new infections in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry/Sherridon health district and two each in two other northern health districts while five others, including Thompson/Mystery Lake, reported one new infection each.

Overall, there were 23 new cases in the north on Tuesday, three in the Interlake-Eastern health region, seven in the Prairie Mountain health region, 28 in the southern health region and 55 in Winnipeg for a provincial total of 116 new cases. One previously announced case was removed due to a data correction for a net increase of 115 new cases.

The north has now passed 7,600 total cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

266 people were hospitalized in Manitoba due to COVID-19 infections June 15, including 63 in intensive care. There are also 24 Manitobans in intensive care units in Ontario and Alberta. Hospitalization numbers include 12 northern residents, three of whom are in intensive care. 

Two new deaths linked to the virus were announced Tuesday, upping the total death toll in the province to 1,104 since the pandemic began.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba stood at 10.6 per cent June 15.
