People do not requires vehicle permits to visit provincial parks in February and there will also be a family fishing weekend Feb. 16-18 when anglers will not need to have licences.

The provincial government is encouraging Manitobans to get out and enjoy the great outdoors this month by offering free entry to provincial parks until the end of February.

“Winter is an excellent time to enjoy the beauty of our provincial parks and there are many outdoor activities to take part in as a family or on your own,” Sustainable Development Minister Rochelle Squires said. “Whether it’s cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or taking a quiet walk, there is much to see in Manitoba parks and we encourage everyone to enjoy them in winter just as they do in the summer.”

Provincial parks visitors will not require vehicle permits in February, though SnoPasses are still required for snowmobiles using groomed trails. National parks entrance fees will still apply.

Paint Lake Provincial Park south of Thompson offers outdoor skating and hockey playing areas on the frozen lake surface as well as a sledding hill.

Ice fishers will not require angling licences Feb. 16-18 during the free family fishing weekend, though conservation limits will still apply and federal licences will be required in national parks.
