Multiple fines for gatherings of more than five people dished out in Northern Manitoba

Manitoba RCMP continue to hand out tickets to people failing to obey COVID-19 public health orders, issuing 24 fines Nov. 14-20, including 20 in the province’s north.

Nine people were fined for gathering in a group of more than than five people in The Pas Nov. 20. The Pas RCMP initially fined seven adults, then returned to the same gathering a second time, where they fined the same seven people plus two more. A woman in The Pas was fined for having more than five people gathered together on Nov. 18 as well.

A man and a woman in Norway House were fined Nov. 14 and Nov. 17, respectively,  for having more than five people gathered in one location. A Cross Lake woman was fined Nov. 15 for being with someone from outside of her household and a Gillam business was fined on behalf of the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority Nov. 16.

In the seven days leading up to and including Nov. 20, RCMP received 236 calls related to COVID-19 throughout Manitoba. Sixteen verbal warnings were issued.

Since April 9, Manitoba RCMP have issued 137 warnings and 75 fines related to public heath orders.

Manitobans outside of Winnipeg should not call 911 for COVID-related issues but report non-compliance with public health orders to the Manitoba government inquiry line at 1-866-626-4862.
