More than 350 new COVID cases in Manitoba, including 34 in the north

Manitoba reported 363 new positive tests for COVID-19 May 6, the highest daily total since December. Four deaths associated with the virus, three of them linked to the B.1.1.7 variant, were also announced on Thursday.

Manitoba reported 363 new positive tests for COVID-19 May 6, the highest daily total since December.

Four deaths associated with the virus, three of them linked to the B.1.1.7 variant, were also announced on Thursday. 986 Manitobans have died as a result of the virus since the pandemic began.

Six previously announced cases were removed from provincial totals due to data corrections for a net daily increase of 357.

263 of the new cases were from the Winnipeg region while 34 were in the north.

There are 185 Manitobans in hospital due to the virus, 123 of whom are considered infectious. Forty of the infectious patients are in intensive care, as are 12 who are no longer considered infectious.

There are 14 northerners in hospital due to COVID-19, including four with active infections. One of those four is in intensive care, as are two other northern residents who are no longer considered infectious.

The five-day provincial test positivity rate May 6 was 9.1 per cent, the highest it has been since Jan. 26.
