Manitoba’s government reported 560 new cases of COVID-19 May 13 and the number of new cases in the north jumped from 10 on Wednesday to 27 on Thursday.

Three previously announced cases were removed from the provincial total due to data corrections for a net daily  increase of 557 COVID cases and three deaths were reported, bringing the total to 1,002. One of the deaths announced May 12 was removed due to a data correction.

The Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/God’s River/God’s Lake health district had the largest number of new cases in the north on Thursday with 11.

431 of the new COVID-19 infections were in the Winnipeg region, 38 in the Interlake-Eastern region, 34 in the Prairie Mountain region and 30 in the southern health region.

There are 240 Manitobans in hospital as a result of the virus, including 183 with active infections. Those numbers are up by about 20 since Wednesday. Forty-nine of those with active infections are in intensive care, as are 13 who are no longer considered infectious.

Thirteen northern residents are hospitalized due to COVID, six of them with active infections, one of whom is the only northern resident currently in intensive care.

Manitoba’s five-day test positivity rate on Thursday was 12 per cent. Prior to this week, the last time the positivity rate in Manitoba reached or exceeded 12 per cent was in late December.
