RCMP officers tackled and disarmed a 25-year-old man holding a loaded shotgun while responding to a May 9 call in Gods Lake Narrows.

Police were called to a disturbance at a residence around 8:15 p.m. and were told that a man had assaulted another resident and was inside a room in the home. While approaching the closed door of the room, officers heard a gun being loaded and entered quickly to find a man standing in the room with a shotgun.

The gun had a round in the chamber and additional rounds in the magazine tube.

“This was an extremely dangerous situation for our officers” said Manitoba RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Paul Manaigre. “Their quick response and actions resulted in the safe arrest of the suspect and no further harm to any other resident within the home.”

The man is charged with multiple weapons- and assault-related charges and RCMP continue investigating.
