A member of the Cranberry Portage RCMP is the subject of an investigation after a single-vehicle collision about 90 kilometres north of The Pas July 22.

The officer tried to pull over a vehicle around 5 a.m. but the driver accelerated northbound on Highway 10 before going off the road and into a water-filled ditch. The officer approached the car and found the driver, a 19-year-old female who was wearing her seatbelt, unconscious. She was taken by ambulance and transported to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, where she remains.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), which looks into serious incidents involving on- and off-duty police officers in Manitoba, was notified and is investigating because the woman required admission to hospital on an in-patient basis.
