A 51-year-old man from Nelson House died Dec. 21 when the SUV he was travelling in lost control and rolled over on Highway 6 about 10 kilometres north of Devils Lake.

The accident was reported to Grand Rapids RCMP around 8:20 p.m. Saturday and road conditions were described as icy at the time.

Investigation determined that a 58-year-old woman from Nelson House was driving northbound when the vehicle lost control, went into the ditch and rolled. The male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and both of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time.

Grand Rapids RCMP continue to investigate with assistance from a forensic collision reconstructionist.

*The original version of this story said both the driver and the passenger in the vehicle were killed, but only the passenger was. The Thompson Citizen apologizes for the error.
