RCMP re-opened Highway 6 between Devil's Lake and the Highway 60 turnoff, just south of Grand Rapids, more than eight hours after a Gardewine North transport carrying explosive and flammable dangerous goods caught fire early Tuesday morning.

"I am told everything is all up and running," said RCMP Cpl. Miles Hiebert, a media spokesman for "D" Division in Winnipeg, Nov. 30.

Highway 6 was closed between Devil's Lake and the Highway 60 turnoff to Flin Flon for about eight hours after a semi-trailer caught fire around 5 a.m. Highway 60 is 152 kilometres in length and connects Highway 6 in the east to Highway 10 in the west. The distance between Devil's Lake and the Highway 60 turnoff is about 70 kilometres.

The driver managed to drop his trailer from the semi, Hiebert said.

A no-fly zone was also in effect for aircraft due to heavy smoke in the area.

Hiebert said there were no injuries.
