Body of missing Leaf Rapids woman found in Churchill River

The body of a Leaf Rapids woman who went missing Oct. 11 was recovered from the Churchill River on Oct. 23, Manitoba RCMP said.

Gwyneth Gegenfurtner, 19, had been reported missing by her family Oct. 12.

Searchers from Leaf Rapids, Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation assisted with the search for Gegenfurtner and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak’s (MKO) Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) liaison unit was in Leaf Rapids on Saturday to provide support for her family and the community.
