75 new COVID cases in Manitoba Feb. 9, 16 of them in the north

No northern health district had more than the four new cases reported in Thompson/Mystery Lake and the Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Easterville/Chemawawin/Moose Lake health district was the only other one with more than two new cases.

Fifty-one of the province’s new cases on Tuesday were from the Winnipeg region and the five-day test positivity rate was 5.4 per cent.

Three more deaths were reported in Manitoba, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 853 and there were 266 people in hospital due to the virus, including 33 in intensive care. 104 of the total hospitalizations and 15 of the ICU admissions were among people with active COVID-19 infections while the rest are no longer considered infectious. There are 35 northerners in the hospital, 18 of whom have active infections. Two northerners with active infections are in intensive care, as are three others who are no longer considered infectious.

The COVID-19 outbreak at Northern Spirit Manor personal care home in Thompson has been declared over by Manitoba public health.
