A 16-year-old male was arrested and charged by RCMP in Opaskwayak Cree Nation Dec. 31 after allegedly pointing a gun at a person and firing a shot into a wall.

The Pas RCMP were responding to a report of a disturbance on Mikisew Street when officers heard a gunshot from a neighbouring residence and saw two males come out and start arguing in the street. As officers approached they saw that one of the people had what appeared to be two firearms.

Police ordered him to drop the guns but he ran back inside and officers saw him enter a room. When he came out of the room, he didn’t have the firearms and was arrested. Police then seized the guns.

Officers were told that the 16-year-old had pointed a gun at someone and fired it into a wall in the basement. He is charged with pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court.
