U Sports Roundup: Montreal Carabins crush McGill Redbirds 31-7 on three TDs by Morand

MONTREAL — Carabins quarterback Dimitri Morand had three touchdowns in the first quarter and Montreal easily defeated the McGill Redbirds 31-7 on Saturday in USports football action. Morand staked the Carabins (3-1) to an early 25-0 lead.

His three-yard touchdown run capped a 75-yard drive four minutes into the game. He found Carl Chabot in the end zone a few minutes later and connected with Hassane Dosso for the TD on the final throw of the first.

The Montreal QB finished 19-of-26 passing for 148 yards. Bertrand Beaulieu rushed for 102 yards on five carries, including a 70-yard dash in the fourth quarter that led to a field goal.  

Down 25-0, the only points scored by the Redbirds (1-3) came off an interception in the third quarter. The subsequent 39-yard drive ended with a one-yard run by Ben Bergeron-Spenard for the major.

Winners of two straight, the Carabins lead the RSEQ division while McGill is last.
