Del Mastro scores OT winner for Steelheads in 3-2 win over Frontenacs

Ethan Del Mastro scored the overtime winner for the Mississauga Steelheads in a 3-2 win Wednesday over the host Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL. Del Mastro, a defenceman drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks, produced the winner at 4:59 of extra time.

The Steelheads peppered Kingston goaltender Leevi Merilainen with 47 shots, while Mississauga's Roman Basran made 18 saves for the win.

Ty Collins and Aiden Prueter also scored for Mississauga. Shane Wright and Martin Chromiak countered for Kingston.

In other OHL games Wednesday, the Soo Greyhounds doubled the visiting Saginaw Spirit 8-4 and the Windsor Spitfires downed the Flint Firebirds 6-2.

Tyler Savard and defenceman Robert Calisti each scored twice for the Greyhounds. Soo goalie Samuel Ivanov had 24 saves for the victory.

WINDSOR 6 FLINT 2

Matthew Maggio's hat trick and two goals by Kyle McDonald sparked the Spitfires' offence. Windsor goalie Xavier Medina stopped 36 of 38 shots.
