How long have you been living in Thompson?

A little over nine years. 2009, end of August, beginning of September. I came from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

What do you do for a living?

When I first came up here I was working in the automotive field. I worked for a repair business and then I went and worked for one of the dealerships. I got my taxi driver’s licence. When I lost my taxi licence that cut my income in half. I had to adjust my budget accordingly and I was able to successfully do so without harming my credit or without losing any possessions.

Why do you want to be on city council?

There’s a lot of good ideas around here but nobody in city administration seems to be willing to listen. The only actions you ever hear out of City Hall is, “Oh, that’s the way we’ve always done it.” The status quo isn’t going to work any more in these circumstances with the loss of jobs. I think we need a few more people who aren’t stuck to the old ideas and stuck to the old crew in there and willing to do things differently.

What is the biggest local issue you want to address if you’re elected?

I don’t see any reason why every street in this city can’t be cleared on every snowfall. When you’ve got all that snow accumulating there, it gets under the pavement, it heaves up the pavement and then you’ve got additional costs to repair the pavement in the summertime and that’s something that’s also not done very well around here either. They don’t get repaved until just before the snow flies if they get repaired before the snow flies.

Why should someone vote for you over the other candidates?

I will not be one of those five votes that automatically votes yes every time Mayor Fenske raises his hand. I will do my due diligence. I will do my own research to make sure I know exactly what I’m voting for and vote the way that is best for the city.

Anything else you want to add?

I’d like to reinstate that question and comment session at city council meetings that occurs just before the meeting ends because right now citizens have no way of asking questions about anything that actually occurred during the meeting.
