Brian Woytkiw picked up his second title in three years at the 2009 National King Miner Const at Nickel Days, beating out last year's winner, Joe Burton, for top spot in the 38th edition of the mining skills competition.
Woytkiw, who also won in 2007 - also against Burton, who was first runner-up again this year - finished first in three events and second in one, beating all other contestants in log sawing, ladder climbing and pipe fitting, while finishing second only to Scott Kennedy in the crib building event. The winner was fourth in the muck machine. Woytkiw was also a member of the winning team, along with Burton, Dwayne Templeton and Randy Radesic.
Burton finished first in hand mucking, second in pipe fitting, third in log sawing and fourth in crib building, slusher mucking and nail driving.
Glen Hayden was the second runner-up, and Radesic the third.
Hayden was first in nail driving, second in log sawing and third in both jack leg drilling and slusher mucking, while Radesic posted second-place finishes in steel packing and jack leg drilling along with third place in the ladder climbing and nail driving events.
Danny Soucy, who finished third in hand mucking and fourth in pipe fitting, won the rookie of the year award.
