Eric Vickman shot a two-round total of 155, including a tournament-best 76 on the first day, as he won the E.T. Blades championship flight at the 40th-annual men's open golf tournament June 26-28 at the Thompson Golf Club.

Vickman was the only golfer in the tournament to score in the 70s for both rounds.

"The golfing was great," said tournament chair Dave Green, citing sunny skies for the first round and no rain throughout the tournament as an improvement from last year, when rain washed out the first round and made the second one soggy. "It was an awesome weekend for golf."

Earl Timmons finished four shots back of Vickman for second place in the championship flight, while the third and fourth spots were taken by Murray McDonald with a 159 and Wayne Constant, who shot 160.

Overall, 120 golfers competed in 10 flights.

"It's the golf course's biggest event of the year," said Green, noting that this year's edition had entrants from as far away as Winnipeg.

In the Lambert's Paint and Carpet Centre flight, Mike Fayant finished on top with a 162, seven strokes up on Bob Monuik, who finished one ahead of Archie McLellean and Blair Crooks, who both shot 170.

John Dutchak was the Calm Air flight champion, recording a 164 that included the lowest score of round two at 77. He was followed by James Broderick (170), Leonard Linklater (173) and Kelly Davis (174).

The Thompson Ford flight saw Trevor Kemp finish first at 173, with the other top four spots taken by Kerry Freund (176), Dave Sereda (180) and Kirk Secord (183).

Jesse Dumas won the Sobey's West flight, carding 176, just one ahead of runner-up Darren Thompson. Jon Walsh shot 180 for third spot, while Kelly Secord was fourth with 182.

Dave Green's 188 landed him on top of the Chase Autobody Supplies flight, ahead of Doug Agar with an identical score. Morgan Carroll and Chris Sylvester were third and fourth, both with 190.

The Mystery Lake Hotel flight was captured by Rob Platford with a 191, followed by Gerald Osbourne (195), Steve Oniske (196) and Glenn Laycock (200).

Wayne McLellan won the McKay's GM flight with a 196, followed by Josh Lyska (197), Tony Monias (202) and John Crossley (207).

The T.D. Canada Trust flight title went to Kyle Fayant (209), with Jerry Hartin (214), Josh MacQuarrie (217) and Dustin Levesque (218) filling out the top four.

The McMunn & Yates flight went to Dwayne Gosselin (223), followed by Al Templeton (227), Rod Corrigan (233) and Tom Rae (235).

A hole-in-one boat package sponsored by Mystery Lake Body Shop went unclaimed as nobody recorded an ace in the second round.
