Trojans senior girls win season’s first hoops tournament

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s senior girls’ basketball team began their season with three straight wins and a tournament title at the Bill McDonald Memorial Basketball Tournament in The Pas Dec. 12-14.

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s senior girls’ basketball team began their season with three straight wins and a tournament title at the Bill McDonald Memorial Basketball Tournament in The Pas Dec. 12-14.

The Trojans beat the Hapnot Collegiate Institute Kopper Kweens from Flin Fon 69-41 in the final. 

They opened their season with a 66-16 victory over the Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute (MBCI) Spartans from The Pas, then clinched first place in their round-robin pool by beating the Oscar Lathlin Collegiate Wolverines 61-23.

Emma Tomchuk of RDPC was named the tournament MVP and Avery Ritchie was picked as a tournament all-star.

The senior boys’ team was winless in the round-robin, falling 71-45 to MBCI to open their season, then dropping a 48-41 decision to the Frontier Collegiate Institute Raiders. They finished the season’s first tournament on a winning note with a 64-58 victory over the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre Huskies from Norway House in the fifth-place game.
