The Burntwood Curling Club and Thompson Ski Club are among northern organizations receiving portions of nearly $1 million in funding for nonprofit and community-led organizations in Manitoba, the provincial government announced Dec. 11.

The ski club is getting $20,744 from the province’s Community Places grant program to replace ski lift cables at Mystery Mountain Winter Park, while the curling club will get $4,088 from the Community Support Small Grants program for the construction of a trophy case.

The Town of Lynn Lake Arena board is getting $41,609 from the Community Places program for redevelopment of the arena, while the Flin Flon Arts Council will receive $7,000 from the Community Support small Grants program to put on the Flin Flon Culture Days events.

“Our government is committed to investing in programming and infrastructure at the community level,” said Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton. “Our neighbourhoods and communities see a significant impact as a result of these investments every day through increased economic development, as well as the addition of strengthened community infrastructure.”

Fifty-seven projects around Manitoba will receive $950,039 through the Community Planning and Assistance program, the Community Places program, the Community Support Small Grants program, the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, as well as the Emergency Capital Grant program.  This funding is in addition to more than $4.5 million in grants announced earlier this year.
