Six runners conquer Boys and Girls Club half-marathon

Thirty-eight runners and walkers took part in the first Thompson Boys and Girls Club half-marathon, 10-kilometre run and 10-km walk July 5.

Angela Bakos-Shier was the winner of the first Thompson Boys and Girls Club Doug's Source for Sports half-marathon July 5, finishing the nearly 22-kilometre course in 1:31:10, more than two minutes faster than second-place finisher Craig Finlay, the top male runner, who crossed the line in 1:33.54. Third place went Brian Oliver with a time of 1:35:58.

The other three runners who completed the half marathon were Hash Pereira (1:36:51), Jennifer Krentz (1:54:50) and Darren Grandbois (1:54:56).

In the Nickel City Motors 10-kilometre run, Shane MacDonald was the top finisher, while Kristy Prystay was second and the fastest female. MacDonald completed the course in 47:02 while Prystay was across in 52:55. Carmilla Kathleen Land was the only other 10-km racer to crack the 60-minute mark, finishing in 58:17.

Cristina Zelaya was the first to finish the Custom Storage 10-kilometre walk, with a time of 1:33.36, followed by Thompson city councillor Oswald Sawh, the top male walker with a time of 1:37:49.

Twenty-five participants took part in the 10-km run, with all but one finishing the course. There was also one did-not-finish in the half-marathon, while all six entrants completed the walk.
