The Norman Northstars pre-season roster has several familiar faces, with a dozen players who skated for the team last year, as well as nine newcomers.
There is one space left, as Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League teams may carry 22 players.
Back from last year are Zac Zales, Dylan Hykawy, Justin Valentino, Kenton Fayant, Wayne Folster, Quinton Holmes, 2008-2009 rookie of the year and top goal-scorer Cody Zulyniak, Brett Ferguson, Wayne Folster, goaltender Ryan Delorme, Roger Tagoona, Allan Meyer and Jaron Campbell, who is currently on the pre-season roster of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's OCN Blizzard.
New to the team are Thompson goaltender Mitchell Backhouse, Kane McKee, Roy Ettawacappo of Norway House, Thompson's Tyler Delyea, Dillon McCombie, Jesse Ewing, Cole Doak, Rylan Veitch and Rankin Inlet's Trent Tootoo.
Seventeen of those on the roster skated in the Northstars intersquad game Aug. 30 at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena. Ten were on the victorious white team. Holmes, Zulyniak, Ferguson and Campbell were not at the Northstars tryouts as they were attending junior team hockey camps.
Players who made the top 40 at the Northstars tryouts but are not on the pre-season roster are Shaun Strom, David Platford, Cole McKay, Preston Folster, Patrick Denis, Jari Roinila, Tyler Rice, Dustin Richards, Diego Antsanen, Carter Leclair, Scott Danko, Jory Hadiken, Reegis Sanche, Harrison Scatch, Brent Mader, Lorne Leslie, Brendon Turner, Vance English, Brady Laycock, Edward Bayer, Dennis Dorian, Jory Henderson and Austin Monias.
