The Lunatics' second baseman snags a low drive during a 17-6 tournament final against Storm July 12.

A pair of consecutive five-run at-bats helped the Lunatics build up a nine-run lead on their way to a 17-6 victory over Storm in the final of the Merchant Media Slo Pitch League's house league tournament July 12.

The Lunatics broke things open with five runs in the top of the second inning, leading off with a triple and a walk before their second run scored on a sacrifice fly. A triple, a missed fly ball and a pair of doubles made the score 6-0 before a pop out and a caught line drive ended the at-bat.

The Lunatics got right back at in the third, as their second batter smashed a two-run in-the-park homer to counteract the two runs that Storm had just recorded. Three more singles made it 9-2 before a double play, but another pair of singles scored two more before the third out.

The Lunatics had opened the game with a single run in the top of the first.

Storm tried to fight back, scoring two runs each in the second, third and sixth innings to make it a 13-6 game heading into the seventh, but the Lunatics piled on three more runs with two singles and two doubles from the first four batters in the final frame before another in-the-park homer put the game out of reach at 17-6.

The Lunatics recorded a playoff victory over the Renegades to qualify for the final after finishing second in the five-team round robin with three wins and a tie

Storm beat the Bandits in the second round of the playoffs after winning all four round-robin games.

The Renegades captured third place with a 17-11 win over the Bandits, who finished fourth in the round-robin and beat the Tataskweyak Sluggers to open the playoffs.
