Craig Finlay and Angela Bakos were the men's and women's overall champions for the second year in a row at the Thompson triathlon Aug. 30.

Finlay crossed the finish line first among all competitors, finishing the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre cycle and five-kilometre run in 1:08.36, which also earned him top spot in the male 40 to 50-year-old category.

Bakos completed the course in 1:21:26, the best individual time among all female competitors and the third-best time overall, as well as the fastest in the female 40 to 49-year-old category.

Mike Van de Velde was second overall and first in the male 20 to 29-year-old category with a time of 1:15:37.

Trinette Konge was the women's 20 to 29-year-old champ, while Jenny Krentz captured the women's 30 to 39-year-old crown.

William Sass won the male 18-and-under title.

The top female team was Forty Plus, with team members Joanne Fork, Sara Gillis and Chris Victor, and the male team champions were Eduard Sieber and Justin Boileau.

The Portuguese Pirates - Steven Felipe, Hash Pereira and Ana Pereira - took the mixed team title.

Twenty-nine athletes competed in the triathlon, up from 21 last year, with 17 of those competing in the individual events.

Organizer Heather Todoschuk said she was pleased to see more racers this year and was also satisfied with her own performance, good for second in the female 40 to 49-year-old category.

"I beat my projected time for myself," said Todoschuk, noting that she finished ahead of a few racers who were younger than her. "I have bragging rights for a couple of people."
