Ex-Northstars swapped again in MJHL

One-time Norman Northstars teammates Brent Wilson of Norway House and Doug McLeod of Cross Lake were involved in off-season trades in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in July.

One-time Norman Northstars teammates Brent Wilson of Norway House and Doug McLeod of Cross Lake were involved in off-season trades in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in July.

Wilson, 19, moved from the Steinbach Pistons to the Swan Valley Stampeders in a July 24 trade that also saw Swan Valley pick up the MJHL list rights of 16-year-old forward Kole Harvey in exchange for 16-year-old forward Russell Trudeau and future considerations.

The 19-year-old McLeod's Hockey Canada playing rights were moved from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to the Portage Terriers in exchange for the rights of defenceman Brent Becker, also 19.

Earlier in the off-season, Wilson was involved in a four-player swap between the OCN Blizzard, where Wilson spent most of the 2008-2009 season, and the Steinbach Pistons, formerly the Beausejour Blades.

The playing rights of Wilson and the MJHL list rights of 17-year-old defenceman Landon Hall went to the Pistons for the playing rights of 18-year-old defenceman Colin Fay and 19-year-old forward Tyler Bertholet.

In 50 games last year, Wilson had 11 goals and 26 assists. His goal total was the highest by a defenceman on the Blizzard and the fourth-highest among blueliners in the MJHL.

Wilson joined the Blizzard in deal last November, traded for 18-year-old Jordan Smith and the MJHL list rights of 17-year-old forward Robbie Lazo.

Wilson started the season with the Portage Terriers, where he had five goals, four assists and 11 penalty minutes in 15 games.

Before landing with the Blizzard, Wilson was traded with forward Kevin Braun and fellow blueliner Gii Kakegabon from Portage to Beausejour for defenceman Derek Robinson.

McLeod spent last season with the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, scoring nine goals and 10 assists in 55 games while also picking up 106 penalty minutes. He spent 16 games with the Terriers in 2007-2008 before returning to the midget AAA Northstars, scoring one goal and three assists with 42 minutes in penalties.

Wilson and McLeod were traded for each other in May 2008, when the Wolverines acquired his rights from the Terriers with his ex-Northstars teammate going the other way.
