Second man arrested in connection with Oct. 1 home invasion and arson in Moose Lake

Patrick Ballantyne has been arrested in connection with incident in which two men broke into a residence while occupants were home and then set it on fire after the residents escaped to safety.

A Moose Lake home was set on fire following an Oct. 1 home invasion, police say.

Manitoba RCMP announced Oct. 18 that a second man wanted in connection with an Oct. 1 home invasion and arson in Moose Lake has been arrested.

Patrick Ballantyne, 26, has been remanded into custody, police said.

Moose Lake RCMP were called to a report of an assault at a residence around 1 a.m. Oct. 1. They arrived to find that the home engulfed in flames. The residents of the home, a 38-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were taken to the nursing station for treatment of minor injuries. Police learned the two were at home when two men broke in and assaulted them with weapons. Both victims got out of the residence and to safety before the fire, which police believe was intentional, got started.

Leroy Jensen, 21, was arrested following the incident and charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and uttering threats, as well as one count of arson, one count of breaking into an occupied resident, one count of assault causing bodily harm and five counts of failing with comply with a release order.
