Rock-throwing and arson damage RCMP and government-owned homes in Chemawawin

Three people, including an 18-year-old woman and two 14-year-old girls are charged with five counts of mischief each after several windows were smashed by rocks on June 13.

Three people, including two minors, face mischief charges related to damage done at RCMP and government-owned homes in Chemawawin, one of which was later deliberately set on fire.

Lavern Chartrand, 18, is charged with five counts of mischief and five counts of failing to comply with court conditions in relation to rocks being thrown through the windows of the homes and several parked vehicles on June 13. Two 14-year-old girls also face five counts of mischief. One is also charged with failing to comply with conditions. One was released until a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 18 in Easterville, while the other 14-year-old and Chartrand were remanded into custody.

The suspects were caught the night of the incident with help from video surveillance.

On June 17, the Chemawawin RCMP and Chemawawin Fire Department responded to a house fire at one of the properties that was damaged four days earlier.

Police officers extinguished the fire and firefighters ensured that it was completely out.

No one was inured in the fire.

RCMP say there have been several other incidents of mischief and arson to the homes in the last year.
