Researchers from the University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba are seeking Thompson residents’ views on community mobilization as a way to prevent crime.

Community mobilization refers to connecting law enforcement with social service, health care and other community organizations in an attempt to create a holistic response to complex issues that can lead to crime before they become police matters. An examples in Thompson is the advisory committee for the recently released community safety and wellness strategy, which included representatives of more than 20 different organizations.

An online survey is being conducted as part of a study called “Prevention and Intervention: An Examination of Community Mobilization Responses to Crime” by Nadine Bartlett of the University of Manitoba Faculty of Education and Kelly Gorkoff of the University of Winnipeg Department of Criminal Justice.

Survey participants remain anonymous and the researchers are seeking responses from Thompson residents 16 and older regarding the Thompson Community Response Team.
