Three councillors voted in favour of a resolution to ask the Manitoba Environment authorities what could be done about ravens harassing dogs and cats and getting into garbage cans. "Thompson turkeys," as a protected species, could not be shot, trapped or poisoned.

Council passed a resolution asking the provincial government to continue providing grants for capital expenditures and operating expenses at the Thompson Zoo.

Leaf Rapids had formed a committee to oversee preparations for a farewell party, with all the residents of Lynn Lake invited to attend.

Four new doctors, including two family practitioners and an anesthetist, were scheduled to arrive in Thompson by the end of January. Bob Lea, spokesman for the Thompson General Hospital, said the city could still use four or five more.

Thompson had improved its recycling numbers but was still outclassed by smaller, southern communities like Steinbach, which was processing up to 200 tonnes of material per month, compared to 25 tonnes in Thompson.
